Netball

We started by going off in a mini bus to Stradbroke High School. The first match we played was against St. Botolphs Primary School B and we won 7-2.

After that, our heads were high and our winning streak carried on as we beat Thordon 2-0. It was our toughest match so far and we drew against Bedfield primary school 1-1. After that we were determined and beat Gislingham Primary School 2-0 again.

Then the results came in and we came 1st in our group, so then we went into the semi-finals against Eye Primary School. Sadly, we lost 2-1, so that meant we played  Bedfield Primary School and we lost 1-0. So in the end we came 4th, which is amazing for such a small school!

Netball Success

On Friday afternoon, two teams headed off to the school netball tournament. They had worked hard in their practice sessions and after-school club, and their diligence and determination paid dividends. The teams were split into two heats with five or six teams in each. Both our teams won their first and second matches and continued trouncing the competition at every turn.

This led to an interesting final, as both Earl Soham A and B teams fought it out for the gold medal. Being so closely matched, it looked like the win would go to the B team at first, but a determined push led the A team to a 2-1 victory.

Huge congratulations to all who took part and to Dawn and Jennie for their excellent coaching. There will be photographs to follow, so come back soon to see the photographic highlights.

Netball County Finals

Earlier this week, our netball team represented the school at the Suffolk Netball County Finals. They acquitted themselves well, but were up against some tough competition. Though they didn't make the semi-finals, we are all so proud that they got this far. What a fantastic group of children! A big thank you too to the adults who have put in so much time and hard work during the year coaching them.

Hi-5 Netball GOLD!

Earlier this afternoon two teams from Earl Soham took part in the Hi-5 Netball tournament at Thomas Mills High School. The sun shone a brightly as our players which resulted in a 1st and 5th place.

The winning team were simply majestic, winning all five of their games, scoring in excess of 40 and not conceding once. They were so well drilled, enthusiastic and organised that they were simply a joy to watch. All of the training sessions and hard work by pupils and adults clearly paid dividends.

The team finishing in 5th grew in stature as the afternoon progressed and deservedly won their final match. This team consisted entirely of Year 4 & 5s meaning that the future continues to look bright. They were also fantastic viewing and it was clear how much partaking and competing meant to them.

2012 Small Schools Netball Tournament

On a bright(-ish) but chilly Friday morning, our girls (fresh from last week's success), ventured forth to play in the tournament at Thomas Mills. For many of the team this was another first experience, but were they overawed or daunted? Not a bit of it!

They had to play a round robin of 5 matches - they won every one, with scores of  5-0 , 4-1, 4-2, 4-0, and 2-1, resulting in a total of 15 points. Easton were runners- up with 13 points. (A reversal of last year!)
WELL DONE!
Thanks again to Jennie and Dawn for all their time spent at after-school practices, to Jennie for umpiring some of the matches, and a huge thank you to the parents who helped on the scoring and timing after a last minute hiccup!!

Easton v Earl Soham Netball

On a beautifully sunny afternoon, but with some trepidation as it was our first outing this academic year, the netball team set out for Easton Primary School. The team constituted girls from years 4-6, many of whom had never played in a match before.
We won the toss and elected to take the first centre pass, from which the first goal was quickly scored. A few more goals swiftly followed and the team never really looked back. Easton seemed completely bemused by our speedy passing and agility around the court. At half-time the score was 15-1.
Easton did a team re-shuffle which resulted in a tougher second half, but the final score was 23-3 in favour of Earl Soham - a brilliant first game by everyone who played.
Many thanks to coach Jennie and assistant coach Dawn for all their efforts this term to make this possible.

Hi-5 Netball Tournament

This morning, our squad of players took part in the Hi-5 Netball Tournament at Thomas Mills High School. A tremendous series of performances saw 6 victories (out of 7 games) against Dennington Primary, SRH Framlingham Primary, SRH Debenham Primary, Halesworth Middle (x2) and Wetheringsett Primary.

The 'crunch' match between Earl Soham and Easton Primary resulted in a 5 - 3 victory for our opponents, who deserved their first place overall. A second place finish in our first ever attempt at this format of the game is quite remarkable.

It was great to see the skill, commitment, fair play and enjoyment shown by all the children who have another medal to add to a growing collection.

Small Schools' Netball Tournament

With some degree of trepidation, the Earl Soham Netball team arrived at Stradbroke for their first competition of the year, and for some of them their first match ever.

They needn’t have worried as they got off to a flying start, beating Dennington 2-0, followed by more success against Wetheringsett and Helmingham, 4 -0 and 4-1 respectively.

The crunch came in the final game of the round robin, versus Easton, as both teams hadn’t yet lost a match. The final score in this very exciting, crucial game finished in a 3-3 draw. Thus both teams finished the round robin on equal points but Easton just pipped Earl Soham for the trophy on goal difference.

All the players are to be congratulated on their performances, and it was a huge achievement to only concede 4 goals in 4 matches. Well done everyone – not forgetting coach Jennie and the loyal band of parental supporters.

Netball Match - Y6 versus Parents

The year six pupils took on the parents on Thursday afternoon in a thrilling game of netball. The parents won the game, but their height advantage may have had something to do with that!

The year six match was followed by a match between staff and parents. I am very pleased to report that the staff held their own and won the game 7-3.

Netball Success!

Earl Soham traveled to Sir Robert Hitcham's Primary, Debenham for an end of year friendly fixture. The girls started off quite anxiously, worried about the size of the school and the height of the opposition. A closely fought first game saw the hosts run out victorious 4 - 0. Credit must go to Debenham who played some fine netball in a very sporting manner.
Having learnt for their mistakes and realised that they were a match for the home side, a revitalized and refreshed group of players took to the court for the second match against a home side who had made many changes. In this match, Earl Soham were simply insatiable. The netball was fast and furious, with good passages of play being exhibited by both sides. With accurate shooting, stout defending and energetic play all-round, Earl Soham were this time the victors, winning 7 - 0. This was thoroughly deserved and goes to show how far you've come as a team - well done!

Small Schools Netball Tournament

On Tuesday 27th April 10 pupils from our netball club set off to Thomas Mills High School to take part in the area netball tournament along with 10 other small schools.During a beautiful sunny morning the team won all 4 of their group matches and so proceeded into the semi-final. This proved to be a very hotly contested match, against Hoxne, who they had already narrowly beaten in the group stages. The match was tied at 1-1 at full time so extra time was played, Earl Soham scoring the only goal in this period.

So to the final - versus Wortham - a team who have never appeared in this competition final before, but who impressed everyone with their shooting ability throughout the morning.

Through excellent all-round play and teamwork Earl Soham were victorious by the narrowest of margins 2-1.
Well done everyone, including Ally and Jennie for coaching.

Group results:
Wilby 0 Earl Soham 2
Earl Soham 2 Gislingham 0
Wetheringsett 0 Earl Soham 2
Earl Soham 2 Hoxne 1
