Hockey Match

Last week, pupils from Y5 and 6 took on a group of Y7 pupils from the high school in a hockey match. Led by their coach, Mr Kendall, the team faced an opposition much older and bigger than them, but played fantastically, winning the game 8-1.

A big thank you to Mr Kendall for his coaching and organisation of the match and Mrs Sandall for fielding a Y7 team to pitch against us.

Netball

We started by going off in a mini bus to Stradbroke High School. The first match we played was against St. Botolphs Primary School B and we won 7-2.

After that, our heads were high and our winning streak carried on as we beat Thordon 2-0. It was our toughest match so far and we drew against Bedfield primary school 1-1. After that we were determined and beat Gislingham Primary School 2-0 again.

Then the results came in and we came 1st in our group, so then we went into the semi-finals against Eye Primary School. Sadly, we lost 2-1, so that meant we played  Bedfield Primary School and we lost 1-0. So in the end we came 4th, which is amazing for such a small school!

Cross Country

This morning, our year four, five and six pupils took part in a very muddy Cross Country around the grounds of Framlingham College. I am very proud of everyone for taking part and completing the course. We have a number of children going through to the next stage at Mellis in the Spring, including one year-six girl who achieved a third-place medal.

Well done, children, and thanks too to the many parents who lent their support and encouragement.

Sports Day

Today's sports day was a great success, with the four colour teams battling hard for the trophy. It began with team huddles, mascots and face-offs...

And we were quickly into our carousel of field events.

After a short break for a glass of squash, it was time to take to the track for the sack race...

...Egg and spoon race...

...and sprints.

Even our youngest competitors got involved!

Finally, the relay race gave the judges time to total up the points.

There can only be one winner, but with just 82 points between first and last place, it was a close-run competition. However, the green team clinched the win this year.

Well done to everyone who took part and thanks to the PTFA for serving drinks and ice-lollies.
I hope you have enjoyed the photo highlights above. If you want to see more, head over to our Picasa Web page to see all 604 photos! (They are still uploading as I publish this, so please give them a little while).

Tag Rugby Tournament

On Wednesday afternoon we headed to Thomas Mills to take part in the Tag Rugby Tournament. There were 9 schools taking part in two groups, with Earl Soham entering two teams again this year. Both teams showed themselves to be good sportsmen and acquitted themselves well. The B team came third in their group and the A team joint second in theirs. Though not quite enough to secure a medal place, both teams learnt a lot from the experience and had a good afternoon of sport in the spring sunshine.

Enjoy the photos!

Basketball Tournament Gold

On Thursday afternoon we took two teams to Debenham High School to take part in the Suffolk School Sports Basketball Tournament. We faced three teams from Occold Primary and one from Stonham Aspal. Both our teams aquitted themselves marvellously, with the B team taking the Bronze position and our A team taking home Gold medals to add to their collection.

It was a great afternoon and a pleasure to be able to watch them compete. Well done, all of you!

Enjoy the photos!

Cross Country

Yesterday afternoon pupils in year four and above took part in the cross country alongside pupils from other local primaries. It was a gruelling, but enjoyable run and the children's determination to succeed was inspiring. We had four pupils, three girls and one boy (pictured below), who placed in the top five for their year group - a fantastic achievement! They will go on to the next round later this term.

Very well done to everyone who took part. You were brilliant and made us very proud.

All the photos (over 300) are shown in the slideshow below, so get yourself a cuppa!

Sports Day

Today's Sports Day was a huge success. It was great to see so many families coming together to support their children in the field and track events. A big thank you to Mrs Barker for returning to organise the event for us, and also to the ladies of the PTFA who provided drinks and biscuits for children and parents half-way through the afternoon.

Congratulations to the Green Team on a fantastic win!

I hope you enjoy looking through the photographs as much as I have.

Alton Water

On Tuesday, Year 6 pupils from Earl Soham, Helmingham and Bedfield schools enjoyed a day of water sports at Alton Water activity centre in Ipswich. The children took part in windsurfing, sailing and kayaking. We were lucky with the weather and had glorious sunshine during the activities. The heavy rain held off until we were safely on the coach going home.

It was a great day with lots of fun had by all.

Mini Tennis... GOLD and SILVER!

News has just filtered through from the Year 3 & 4 mini tennis tournament held at Hartismere High School earlier today...
Incredibly both of our teams topped their groups meaning they got to play against each other in the final.
After a number of close and hard fought encounters one team had to prevail but it looks like both of the teams were delighted with their red faces matching their t-shirts (which they will grow in to!).
Lovely to see some of our younger children having the opportunity to compete against other schools.

Rounders Tournament 2014

The rounders team set off this afternoon to Debenham High School to take part in the rounders tournament.

After a rocky start, losing 2 1/2 to 5 in our first game against Thorndon, we went from strength to strength, winning the next two matches easily and scoring over 20 rounders across the two games. Our fourth match was more closely fought, with Gislingham B losing by just half a rounder 3 1/2 to 3.

The fantastic performance in matches 2 and 3 put us top of the table in our group and saw us through to the semi-finals against Palgrave A. They were a strong team with some excellent batters and the win was just beyond our grasp, but we scored a creditable 3 rounders to their 5.

No trophy this year, but we have had a lot of fun and learnt a lot along the way.

Girls Kwik Cricket - SILVER

On a beautiful summer's afternoon the eight girls representing Earl Soham secured second place in the Under 11 Kwik Cricket Tournament.
The first match against Occold saw the team off to a steady start with a win by 10 runs. This was immediately followed by a 40 run victory over SRH Debenham B. Next up were SRH Debenham A with Earl Soham again victorious, this time by 23 runs.
The final match of the afternoon saw the two unbeaten teams meet. Congratulations to SRH Framlingham who won by 25 runs.

It was a lovely afternoon of sporting activity and the girls should be proud of their efforts and achievement in finishing second. Looks like they had a good time!

Swimming Silver

This morning our swimming team travelled to Diss Swimming Pool to take part in 'The Suffolk School Games' swimming competition.
There were a total of 18 primary schools taking part (some 'large' some 'small') and a magnificent display of individual and team swimming saw Earl Soham finish in 2nd place.
Well done to everyone involved, including their swimming teachers, and thank you to everyone who supported and transported.

Hi-5 Netball GOLD!

Earlier this afternoon two teams from Earl Soham took part in the Hi-5 Netball tournament at Thomas Mills High School. The sun shone a brightly as our players which resulted in a 1st and 5th place.

The winning team were simply majestic, winning all five of their games, scoring in excess of 40 and not conceding once. They were so well drilled, enthusiastic and organised that they were simply a joy to watch. All of the training sessions and hard work by pupils and adults clearly paid dividends.

The team finishing in 5th grew in stature as the afternoon progressed and deservedly won their final match. This team consisted entirely of Year 4 & 5s meaning that the future continues to look bright. They were also fantastic viewing and it was clear how much partaking and competing meant to them.

TAG Rugby Silver

This afternoon Earl Soham sent two teams to the TAG Rugby Tournament at TMHS. Having taken part in an after school club for the past six weeks in generally wet, windy and cold conditions today turned out to be one of the nicest days of the year!
It was great to see so many children thoroughly enjoying participating with smiles on their faces and a high degree of skill and determination.
Out of the 7 teams, we finished equal 4th and 2nd which was a tremendous achievement. All twenty children played their part in a lovely afternoon of competitive, yet friendly, sport.
Thank you to all of the supporters...again.
