Mini Tennis... GOLD and SILVER!

News has just filtered through from the Year 3 & 4 mini tennis tournament held at Hartismere High School earlier today...
Incredibly both of our teams topped their groups meaning they got to play against each other in the final.
After a number of close and hard fought encounters one team had to prevail but it looks like both of the teams were delighted with their red faces matching their t-shirts (which they will grow in to!).
Lovely to see some of our younger children having the opportunity to compete against other schools.

Rounders Tournament 2014

The rounders team set off this afternoon to Debenham High School to take part in the rounders tournament.

After a rocky start, losing 2 1/2 to 5 in our first game against Thorndon, we went from strength to strength, winning the next two matches easily and scoring over 20 rounders across the two games. Our fourth match was more closely fought, with Gislingham B losing by just half a rounder 3 1/2 to 3.

The fantastic performance in matches 2 and 3 put us top of the table in our group and saw us through to the semi-finals against Palgrave A. They were a strong team with some excellent batters and the win was just beyond our grasp, but we scored a creditable 3 rounders to their 5.

No trophy this year, but we have had a lot of fun and learnt a lot along the way.

Quadkids Results

The results are in!

Well done to everyone who took part. We narrowly missed out on a medal position, with the A team coming in 4th place overall, and the B team in a valiant 10th position.

However, we placed very well against some large schools. The schools taking home the medals were:
  • Third Place: SRH Debenham A
  • Second Place: Gislingham A
  • First Place: St Botolphs A

Crucial Crew

This afternoon, our year six pupils set off to Stowmarket's Museum of East Anglia, where the annual Crucial Crew event was being held. They took part in a carousel of activities related to safety. They learnt about how to respond in an emergency situation, how to reduce the risk of a house fire, basic road safety and how to avoid spreading germs by careful hand-washing.

All in all, it was an informative and enjoyable afternoon.

Girls Kwik Cricket - SILVER

On a beautiful summer's afternoon the eight girls representing Earl Soham secured second place in the Under 11 Kwik Cricket Tournament.
The first match against Occold saw the team off to a steady start with a win by 10 runs. This was immediately followed by a 40 run victory over SRH Debenham B. Next up were SRH Debenham A with Earl Soham again victorious, this time by 23 runs.
The final match of the afternoon saw the two unbeaten teams meet. Congratulations to SRH Framlingham who won by 25 runs.

It was a lovely afternoon of sporting activity and the girls should be proud of their efforts and achievement in finishing second. Looks like they had a good time!

Another Fabulous Family Fun Night

What a fantastic evening! We are so lucky to have such fantastic kids, wonderful parents and such a hard-working PTFA. We avoided the thunderstorms and enjoyed a beautiful summer's evening packed with fun. From the bingo and the quiz, to the films and the food, everyone had a brilliant time. And it was lovely to be able to sit up and chat through the balmy June night in great company.

As I lay awake in my tent at 3:00am listening to the sounds of the owls, early-rising cockerel and pheasant, and the distant 'eee-awww' of a peacock, I looked forward to the bacon butty and cup of tea in a few hours, and despite the lack of sleep, reflected on what a wonderful school we have.

Thank you to everyone involved in making the night so successful.

Bikeability

This week, Year 5 and 6 pupils have been brushing up on their cycling skills and learning how to keep themselves safe while out on the roads. All the children did really well. Mr Pearce managed to snap a few pictures of one of the groups, shown below.
