Cross Country

This morning, our year four, five and six pupils took part in a very muddy Cross Country around the grounds of Framlingham College. I am very proud of everyone for taking part and completing the course. We have a number of children going through to the next stage at Mellis in the Spring, including one year-six girl who achieved a third-place medal.

Well done, children, and thanks too to the many parents who lent their support and encouragement.

Cross Country

Yesterday afternoon pupils in year four and above took part in the cross country alongside pupils from other local primaries. It was a gruelling, but enjoyable run and the children's determination to succeed was inspiring. We had four pupils, three girls and one boy (pictured below), who placed in the top five for their year group - a fantastic achievement! They will go on to the next round later this term.

Very well done to everyone who took part. You were brilliant and made us very proud.

All the photos (over 300) are shown in the slideshow below, so get yourself a cuppa!

Cross Country

It was a rather soggy, wet affair at Framlingham College this morning for the annual Cross Country event, but the children's spirits were not dampened and they all ran an excellent race around the 1.2 mile course.

Setting off, they were full of smiles. The final approach to the finish line, however, was gruelling and the smiles were replaced by looks of determination and exhaustion.

Thanks to their efforts a number of our pupils placed in the top 25 and will go on to represent the school in the county finals. Well done to everyone for completing the course!

Another Cross Country Success

Shortly after 9:00 this morning, we set off to Stonham Aspal for the annual cross country run. For the first time in several years, the event went ahead on the planned date as the glorious Spring sunshine we are having continued to beat down on us.

The children were both nervous and excited, and the staff were anxious to see whether the children would step up to the challenge and better their previous standings.

After a gentle warm-up, the children took their places, the boys setting off first, followed by the girls a few minutes later. Thankfully, all our children managed to avoid injury in the desperate bid to lead the pack when the whistle blew.

Our first boy to cross the line took fourth place, a commendable result. He will go on to the next round, later in the season, accompanied by four girls, who took 7th, 13th, 19th and 21st places.

Congratulations to all the children, many of whom exceeded our, and their own, expectations and improved on last year's result. I am pleased to say that everyone finished the course and the children sportingly cheered on others, some even going back to run the last part of the course with a friend to offer encouragement on the final hill.

I hope you enjoy the photographs below. I am sorry if I did not manage to catch everyone. Some of you were just too quick for me!

More Cross Country Success

On Wednesday 20th July, three children represented the school in the area cross-country finals at Mellis. Having qualified in the top 25 previously at Stonham Aspal, the children knew that this was going to be a real challenge.
However, the tremendous efforts saw our two girls both finish in the top ten and our male representative striding home to finish first. This is a quite remarkable achievement as it means that Earl Soham have now provided either the boy or girl champion for the last three years!
All three children should be so very proud of their efforts - whop is going to step up to the plate next year?

Cross Country

Yesterday, children in years four, five and six headed once again to Stonham Aspal to take part in the Cross Country race. It was a gruelling circuit, with uneven ground and lots of hills, but the children gave their best  and even Mr Mansell had a go!

Out of the 213 boys and 197 girls running, a number of Earl Soham pupils came in the top 25, which means they will go on to compete at county level later in the year. We even had a podium finish (2nd place) from one of our year six boys (pictured below).

Congratulations to everyone who took part. You ran a good race and can feel proud of yourselves for completing a difficult course.

Cross Country Success - Again!

On the rather blustery summer's evening of Friday 16th July, 6 qualifiers from Earl Soham took part in the area cross country finals for girls and boys in year 3 & 4 and 5 & 6.
Boundary Farm, Framsden, was yet again the superb setting for the athletic climax of the current academic year.

Having provided the winner in last year's year 5 & 6 girls race, hopes were again high.

Yet again, a girl from Earl Soham was victorious in year 5 & 6 girls race.

As well as this, the other children did superbly well (with some notable performances) and can challenge themselves to do even better next year!

Cross Country

Children in years 4, 5 and 6 took part in the Cross Country race in Stonham Aspal last Thursday morning. 213 girls and 249 boys from local schools took part.

For some, finishing the course (a gruelling two-and-a-half miles) was enough. But others were striving to reach the next round and achieved their goal of coming in the top 25. Overall, we had one podium finish (second place) and five top 25 places.

Well done to everyone who took part!

Suffolk County Schools' Cross-Country 'A' Race

The fantastic exploits of our two cross-country finalists continued this morning at the Royal Hospital school, Holbrook. With nearly 90 finalists (from Years 6 & 7) who had qualified from all four corners of Suffolk, our two girls yet again did themselves, their families and school proud.

It was a beautiful winter's morning with a clear blue sky and the air filled with a mixture of muscle rub and bacon sandwiches!

Both children did tremendously well to finish in the top 50, with Imogen putting in a fantastic burst over the last 200metres to finish 8th.
Girls, we are so proud of what you have achieved, running against children older than you and from much larger schools. Thank you for your efforts - a really great start to the weekend.

Mid/South Suffolk Cross Country Championships

Earlier today, two of our year 6 girls travelled to the Royal Hospital School in Holbrook to compete in the next round of the Cross Country Championships.

Faced with the daunting task of nearly 200 other competitors, many of whom were a year older, they lined up in the beautiful surroundings.

Undaunted, the girls ran their hearts out and finished a fantastic 16th and 21st, battling against the elements and illness. This means they qualify for the next round, where I'm sure they'll do themselves proud again.

Well done - a fantastic achievement!

Cross Country Finals

Wednesday 10th June, 2009 - 5pm - Framsden - The FINALS!
Earl Soham children had performed extremely well in the qualifier, with four girls making it through to the final race itself.

Looking very calm and relaxed before the start.
And they're off...

On the run in to victory!

Keep going, young lady!

At the end of the race, all four having strained every sinew in their bodies, yet again, they had done themselves proud.
And for young Freya, the added bonus of having won the overall girls' race. Get in!

Girls, you were ALL absolutely brilliant.
