We set up our own "road" on the playground and while some children acted as vehicles, others taught the Reception and Year 1 children to Stop, Look and Listen. We emphasized the importance of holding hands with an adult and walking safely across the road. The children chose the most sensible place to cross - on a long, straight stretch of road away from junctions or corners.

Road Safety Week
This week we are focusing on road safety. We have learnt about safe places to cross and the Green Cross Code. This afternoon, children in Blue class worked with the younger pupils to help them learn the skills to cross the road safely.

Year 6 - Young Cyclists' Training
This morning saw 11 Year 6 children complete the practical side of their Young Cyclists' Training.
Having spent time earlier in the week both on the playground and on the roads, today was the final assessment. Children needed to show that they could make a safe start, overtake a parked vehicle and turn left and right at a junction.

Road Safety Officers Get Up-to-Speed With Safety Cameras
At the end of term, our two Road Safety Officers took to the road with the traffic police to help prevent speeding and improve the safety of our local roads. They had an opportunity to use a hand-held speed camera on the A1120 beside the school.

Their presence seemed to have the desired effect as all the motorists they observed kept carefully to the speed limit. Great job, boys!

Road Safety Competition Winners and Junior Road Safety Officers

This morning we were visited once again by PCSO Christian Hassler and Ann Battershill (Road Safety Officer - Education) to judge the competition they recently set. The task was to produce a poster aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of road safety for everyone. A number of children of all ages entered, with some really fantastic entries - I'm glad that I wasn't judging!
Well done to our two winners and everyone else for their efforts.

Congratulations also to our two new Junior Road Safety Officers who superbly filled in their application forms. We hope that their work in highlighting road safety makes a real difference.

Keeping Safe on the Roads
This morning, two visitors joined us for assembly. PCSO Christian Hassler and Ann Battershill - Road Safety Officer (Education) explained the importance of keeping safe on the roads and how this can be achieved.

Children were asked a variety of questions and those with the correct answers were awarded with a reflective strip to help them get seen in the dark.
The school is looking to appoint two new Junior Road Safety Officers who will take part in a range of activities aimed at developing the children's understanding of road safety.
Christian and Ann also set a competition for the children to create a poster relating to improving safety and developing awareness.
All children today received either a reflective 'KILL YOUR SPEED NOT ME!' bag sticker or a bright orange swim bag with the same message.
