Science Day 2009

Apologies for the rather belated posting of these photos from science day last term when we had some rather special visitors in school. Our science day took a broadly Darwinian theme, following the media celebrating Darwin's anniversary, and we were treated to the company of a trinket snake, 2 leopard geckos, various giant African land snails, a Russian hamster and a tortoise!

Cross Country

The children in Blue Class took part in the Annual Cross Country event today alongside children from a number of other schools in the area. I am pleased to say that everyone tried their very best and all finished the gruelling course. Particular congratulations to the girls pictured below and to Lily who all came in the top 25.

Assembling the Greenhouse

The School Eco-Council have bought a new greenhouse to give their plants a good start in life.Members of the Eco-Team helped to assemble the greenhouse and took the opportunity to pose for the camera!

Yellow Class Music Lesson

This half term in Yellow class we have been learning about pentatonic scales. The children finished their unit of work by learning two songs that could be sung together. They accompanied themselves on glockenspiels and tambourines. Please listen and enjoy!

Abba Music Festival

On Tuesday 24th March children in Blue Class teamed up with children from Bedfield and Helmingham schools to put on a fantastic performance of some of Abba's greatest hits. The children had a wonderful time rehearsing with the other schools and were a joy to watch as they sung their hearts out to a packed auditorium at Debenham Leisure Centre.

The children were joined by a selection of older pupils from Debenham High School, who performed a range of different pieces, from Elton John to Simon and Garfunkel.

Thank you to everyone who came to watch. We hope you enjoyed the performance as much as we did.

Year 6 'OWL WISE' visit to Thomas Mills High School

This afternoon saw the eight Year 6 pupils travel to TMHS for an hour packed full of information about owls.
They were joined from pupils from all of the other TMHS pyramid schools to be informed and enthused about owls by Phil Eckett. Children had the opportunity to feel how soft the feathers were, witness them in full flight, hear (?) their almost silent flying action and watch one of them run surprisingly fast.

The interesting thing about owls, is that it doesn't matter where you stand - they can always quickly turn their heads and see you! Plenty of things to get the children talking and thinking about some creative writing.

Many thanks to the staff at TMHS for organising this, especially Mr Jellicoe who used to teach me English when I was in the 1st year (what is now Year 7). I hope that I haven't made too many mistakes!

Mother's Day Lunch - Thursday 19th March

On Thursday, over 30 parents and grandparents joined their children for a special Mother's Day Lunch. There were also a number of little brothers and sisters who joined us for the meal.


Temporary Head of Kitchen, Linda, was delighted with the response which saw her serve over 80 meals. Linda was the driving force behind the meal of:

Roast Beef with Yorkshire pudding/Mushroom Bake, Roast Potatoes, Broccoli, Carrots and Gravy.
This was followed by Apple Crumble and Custard/Jelly.


There were plenty of empty plates and a good time was had by all. A big thank you to those who were able to attend - we've got something to build on next year!
