TAG Rugby Silver

This afternoon Earl Soham sent two teams to the TAG Rugby Tournament at TMHS. Having taken part in an after school club for the past six weeks in generally wet, windy and cold conditions today turned out to be one of the nicest days of the year!

It was great to see so many children thoroughly enjoying participating with smiles on their faces and a high degree of skill and determination.

Out of the 7 teams, we finished equal 4th and 2nd which was a tremendous achievement. All twenty children played their part in a lovely afternoon of competitive, yet friendly, sport.

Thank you to all of the supporters...again.

Be My Valentine...

As Valentine's Day fell on the last day of this half-term, to mark the occasion, pupils (and staff) turned up in outfits Pink and/or Fluffy.

The children looked beautiful in shades of fuschia and rose. The staff, on the other hand...well, you can make your own minds up!

Red Class Outdoor Area

Last week new fencing was erected outside Red Class which has now almost doubled their enclosed outdoor area. This is phase 1 of our plan to create a covered outdoor area which will also be resurfaced. Our thanks go to the PTFA and the whole of the school community for raising money towards this ongoing project.

Basketball Tournament

Earlier this afternoon two teams from Earl Soham took part in the area basketball tournament at Debenham Leisure Centre. Both teams acquitted themselves incredibly well with one team reaching the semi-finals and the other winning their play-off for 5th/6th. 

It was great to be able to enter two teams who both competed so well with the other schools, some of which were significantly larger than us in terms of pupil numbers. The children certainly appeared to enjoy themselves and looked rather shattered by the end of the afternoon. As usual they played hard and fair and were a joy to watch.

Yet again our children were superbly supported from the balcony by the best 'fans' going! We could hear you loud and clear!

Getting to Grips with Computing

On Monday, a small group of our most able ICT users in years 5 and 6 joined their counterparts from other local schools at Stonham Aspal for a day of ICT activities. The children were given the opportunity to explore:

• Lego WeDo Construction sets, making programmable Lego creations; 
• Audacity - sound wave editing software; 
• Picasa - Image gallery and manipulation software;
• Scratch - a graphical programming language aimed at children;
• and an Unplugged activity in which the children had to think logically to solve a problem. 

As you can see from the photographs, the children had a great time and took lots of new ideas back to their schools.

Chinese New Year

Children celebrated the beginning of the 'Year of the Horse' with a range of Chinese themed activities.
The tasting of Chinese food seemed to go down particularly well...

There was also some Chinese inspired artwork...

We re-told the story behind the different animals of the Chinese New Year...

And created a Chinese themed dance...
