Aldeburgh Cinema Trip

This morning, to finish the half term off in style, the whole school ventured to Aldeburgh Cinema to watch 'My Neighbour Totoro'. The film followed the fortunes of two girls (Mei and Satsuki) who moved into a house in the country to be nearer to their mother who was in hospital. Four year old Mei discovers the mysteriously charming Totoro who inhabits the forest and they, along with Satsuki, have many adventures.
For some children this was their first trip to the cinema and it was great to hear so many happy giggles (and rustling of sweet wrappers!) throughout the film. A well deserved treat. Thank you to the PTFA for funding the coaches and we wish you all a very enjoyable week off. See you all on Monday 4th November.

Cross Country

It was a rather soggy, wet affair at Framlingham College this morning for the annual Cross Country event, but the children's spirits were not dampened and they all ran an excellent race around the 1.2 mile course.

Setting off, they were full of smiles. The final approach to the finish line, however, was gruelling and the smiles were replaced by looks of determination and exhaustion.

Thanks to their efforts a number of our pupils placed in the top 25 and will go on to represent the school in the county finals. Well done to everyone for completing the course!

PTFA Party

Despite the aches and pains brought on by excessive dancing, I had a fantastic evening at the PTFA party last night. There were lots of families enjoying the food and company and it was nice to see new pupils and returning ex-pupils getting stuck in on the dance floor.

Nights like this don't happen without a lot of planning and preparation and we must say a huge thank you to all the members of the PTFA who pulled out all the stops to make it a night to remember.

The Falconer

Following our recent folk workshop, the children wrote a melody to accompany a local poem called The Falconer. They learnt to sing their masterpiece and we have recorded it for your listening pleasure. We hope you enjoy listening to their work.

Learning about The Hajj

As a fitting end to our RE topic about The Hajj, the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, Mrs Stoney's sister joined us in Green Class to talk about her own experience of the journey. The children had an opportunity to dress in the white clothes, which symbolise equality and purity, that are worn by all Muslims who take the Hajj.

The children listened attentively and asked some excellent questions. A big thank you to Fozzia for giving up her time to come and talk to us.

Toddlers' Sponsored Toddle!

Earlier today a hardy group of our toddlers (and their parents) took part in a sponsored 'toddle' to raise funds for resources for the group. After a false start, they soon got into their stride, completing the course of ten laps of the playground in impressive times. Poppy led the pack, finishing after 6m 59s followed by Isaac 7 seconds later. Achieving bronze, just a couple of seconds ahead of Lola and Jessie, was Gigi with Jack and Lyla also finishing within twelve minutes.
A celebratory cake (home-made) was then shared amongst the competitors to round off a lovely morning in the autumn sunshine. A sum of over £100 has been raised and a great time was clearly had by all! Congratulations (and thank you) to all involved.

England Under 21s v Lithuania Under 21s

Yesterday afternoon soon a quick dash for many parents and pupils (past and present) to Portman Road, Ipswich, for an international footballing feast at Portman Road, Ipswich. There was a family atmosphere throughout with flags being waved, vuvuzelas being blown and children fidgeting in their seats!
Gareth Southgate’s excellent England U21s hammered Lithuania 5-0 at Portman Road to go top of their Euro 2015 qualifying group. Ravel Morrison (2), Saido Berahino (2) and James Ward-Prowse scored the goals as the England youngsters dominated from start to finish and fully deserved their comfortable victory in front of a crowd of 17,067.

Football v Bedfield

The rain of the previous few days cleared to enable the children from Earl Soham and Bedfield to display a footballing feast which had the capacity crowd pleading for more. Well, that's what it felt like from the centre circle.
It was great to see so many children enjoying being involved in what was a hard fought and entertaining affair. Split into four quarters, Bedfield led 1 - 0 after the first piece of the action. Earl Soham levelled so that half way through proceedings the score was 1 - 1. The third quarter saw Bedfield regain their advantage to lead 2 - 1 going into the final quarter. In a final 15 minutes, which was full of action, Earl Soham took the lead for the first time in the match, eventually being 4 - 3 ahead as the whistle blew for the last time. Congratulations to all on their efforts from both teams and a special mention to hat-trick hero Jamie on his debut and winning goal scorer Kyle.
Thanks to everyone for their support and also to our fantastic opponents from just up the road - you were a credit. Keep playing and enjoying.

A Feast of East Anglian Folk Music

This afternoon Green Class was joined by Mary Humphreys and David Dolby of Suffolk Folk, who entertained and educated us with a selection of folk songs and music.

We began by learning about the different types of folk song: songs that tell a story; songs with a refrain; and songs with a chorus. The children listened beautifully and joined in with the refrains and choruses.

After a short break, we were taught an OXO reel. This 32-bar dance got everyone up and moving and, despite some of us finding it tricky to coordinate our limbs, we all had a fantastic time trying, as can be seen in the photographs below.
