Blog Comments

Unfortunately, we have recently been receiving a lot of spam comments on our blog posts, with anonymous users leaving a comment and link to their own sites. All comments are moderated before being published on the school blog, so you will not have noticed these, but I have been receiving multiple comments each day, which naturally take time to review and reject. I have therefore taken the step of preventing anonymous users from leaving comments, which will hopefully allow us to more easily report any spam messages. This means that to leave a comment, you will now have to log in with a Google account. I know this is an extra step, but I hope that you will understand why this is necessary.

Thank you for understanding, and please do keep leaving us comments.

The Trial of Goldilocks

This week in literacy, we have been continuing our work on fairytales by investigating the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We read Roald Dahl's version from Revolting Rhymes, and the more traditional version of the tale and posed the question: Was Goldilocks in the wrong and should she be punished for her actions?

We decided to put Goldilocks on trial and so set up our classroom as a courtroom which saw the children swear their oaths before the judge.

Mrs Exton was defending Goldilocks and did a magnificent job. Several witnesses were called, who did some quick thinking and brilliant improvisation. Who knew, for example, that Goldilocks' had a complex home life and that she was having severe behavioural issues at school which resulted in a challenging attitude towards authority?

Despite the mounting evidence against her, the jury were unable to reach agreement and we were left with a hung jury. Goldilocks will be released on bail pending a retrial in the coming weeks.

This drama will be followed up next week with some work on writing balanced arguments.

TAG Rugby - County Final

Having won their earlier area tournament, Earl Soham progressed to the TAG Rugby County Finals held at Stowmarket Rugby Club.
Earl Soham lined up in Leage One against Beyton Middle School. Westley Middle School and Hadleigh Primary School - unfortunately the 5th team in the league failed to arrive.
The Earl Soham eleven were superb up against oppoition from schools with hundreds of pupils. They played some fantatstic rugby with smiles on their faces throughout. Sadly three defeats resulted, but they were all hard-fought contests. To be honest, no more could have been asked of the children in terms of effort and skill in addition to the manner in which they accepted defeat being spot on.
Great support yet again, thank you.

Under 7 Gymnastics...GOLD

I think that the picture says it all - how proud and pleased do they look?! After a stunning floor display and precise bench work the Under 7 gymnastics team waited with baited breath as the results were read out. A huge cheer erupted as Earl Soham were announced the winners.
Congratulations to the whole squad on providing all of us with a great memory. Next stop, Bury St. Edmunds for the County finals! Special thanks to Miss Piper, the children peaked at exactly the right time.

Under 9 Gymnastics...SILVER

A fantastic display of floorwork and vaulting earlier this afternoon saw our Under 9 gymnasts claim silver in the area gymnastics competition. The result means that the children have qualified for the County finals to be held later during the year at Bury St. Edmunds.
The children were superbly supported, yet again, by the parents. Thanks must also go to everyone who knuckled down to enable this to go ahead and also to Ms Piper for her tireless work in preparing the children. The smiles on their faces make it all so worthwhile
