This afternoon, the Eco-council and volunteer helpers headed out onto the school field to collect litter and playtime equipment that needed putting away. They managed to collect almost a whole bag of rubbish!
Well done, helpers!

Easter Egg Hunt
This afternoon, we finally had a moment of Spring weather, which was perfect for an Easter egg hunt. The children worked in pairs (the older children doing a fantastic job of looking after their younger siblings and friends) to hunt out matching halves of cards to win mini-egg prizes. The trickiest part of the afternoon involved finding the two "super cards" which would win the finders a large Easter egg. These proved difficult to find, but one was finally discovered tucked into Mr Pearce's right shoe, and the other scrunched up and well-hidden in the hide-outs.
We hope you enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed the eggs!

Small Schools' Swimming Gala Champions
This morning two teams of swimmers journeyed to Diss Swimming Pool for the annual Small Schools' Swimming Gala. Carrying on their recent run of success, the children came back with the silverware as a result of a superb range of individual and team performances.
What was also great to see is how bright the future looks with a number of children from Years 4 & 5 competing so well.
Many thanks to everyone involved for your efforts and support - it really does make a difference.

TAG Rugby Champions!
This morning a hardy band of children from Years 4, 5 & 6 participated in the area TAG Rugby Tournament. It was a bitterly cold day but the performances of our children warmed the hearts of the loyal spectators by winning four out of their five matches to finish the event as champions!

Red Nose Day
Today saw the children (and staff) celebrate the 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day in style. There were a variety of interesting costumes on show which included Mr Mansell wearing a tie for the first time in school history, inside out clothes, back to front clothes, wacky hair, coloured hair (which gave Mr Pearce a headache), lots of red and some 'undergarments' on show!
At break time Mr Mansell judged the Blue Class 'Bake off' but was undecided after tasting all entries three times. Many children decorated cakes for a donation whilst individuals also raised money through their own sponsored efforts.
It all added a nice splash of colour and some wonderful smiles on a rather gloomy day. Hopefully the money raised will go to spread those smiles further afield.

A Sweet Introduction to Fractions
This morning Yellow Class started out on their latest Numeracy theme, fractions. The children all has a bag of 20 Jelly Tots (other jelly sweets are available) and were asked to organise them in a methodical way. There were some links to our previous data handling work, but the key was to develop an understanding of what a fraction actually is ( the number out of the whole amount) to enable the class to be able to work out fractions of shapes and amounts as the theme progresses. It appears that recent multiplication and division work will also come in rather handy...

Young Art East Anglia Competition
Earlier this term our children entered the 'Young Art East Anglia' competition aimed at celebrating children's art whilst also raising funds for cancer research.
This weekend saw 330 of the 1800 entries displayed in an exhibition at the Peter Pears Gallery in Aldeburgh. The theme for the competition was 'Magical Moment'.

The quality of entries was simply superb and I would have thought that the judging process was nigh on impossible. However, two entrants from Earl Soham were chosen to have their work exhibited. Pictured below is Sophie's piece...

Mothers' Day Lunch
Earlier today we celebrated the upcoming Mothers' Day in style. During the week the children had been making and decorating muffins whilst also making a personalised box for them to go in. These were presented to parents on arrival.
Just under 100 children and adults had a rather yummy roast lunch with over 30 of our parents able to join us. It was great to see the lovely smiles on the faces of everyone - we're delighted that so many were able make it a special occasion.
Special thanks must go (again) to Caroline in the kitchen for her tireless work.

Return of the Persistent Chaffinch
Dear Readers,
I am pleased to announce that the persistent chaffinch has returned and taken up his usual spot on the door handle outside Blue Class. He visited us this morning to learn about division - presumably so that he could ensure he was getting a fair share of the bird seed - and again for phonics, where he brushed up on his dictionary skills.
We hope to see him regularly over the coming weeks, and I will keep you posted about his progress in class!
